Director Asia Pacific - Peter Sagar has been active in the GLBT community of Melbourne . Peter was a committee member and volunteer of Australia ’s first gay and lesbian community radio station in Melbourne (JOY Melbourne 94.9fm), and has been a volunteer with Melbourne ’s Midsumma Festival. He was also a co-convener for Young Australian’s For A Republic in the lead up to the nation’s referendum on becoming a Republic in 1999.
Peter became interested in queer sport after listening to JOY’s broadcast of the Sydney Gay Games in 2002 and choose to get involved with the Melbourne Argonauts Queer Rowing Club in 2003. In 2004 Peter was the first recipient of the club’s Club Member of Year Award and served on the committee in 2004-2005.
With other Melbourne queer sporting clubs, Peter has been instrumental in the creation of the Queer Sports Alliance Melbourne – an umbrella group to assist clubs and encourage participation in sport and recreation.
Born in Adelaide , South Australia , Peter has lived almost all of his life in Melbourne and has spent time in Toulouse , France and Oxford , England . He has an urban planning degree from RMIT University and is a practicing urban planning consultant advising state and local government and private clients.
