Co-President - Catherine Meade has a long history of involvement in the GLBT sport movement. Sidelined by injury in 1990, she assisted with the onsite coordination of the athletics event at the Vancouver Gay Games. She then co-founded Team Edmonton to prepare for the 1994 New York Games where she won 4 medals in Athletics. In 1997, she travelled to Denver to serve as one of two presenters of Toronto ’s bid to host the 2002 Games. Catherine participated in the 1998 Games in Amsterdam where she won 3 medals in Athletics.
Catherine then became a Board Member of Team/Équipe Ottawa leading up to the 2002 Games in Sydney where she won 4 Athletics medals. Upon moving to Toronto in 2002 to practice law, she became an active member of Women4Montreal/GG2006, a group that fundraises to facilitate women’s attendance at international multi-sport GLBT sporting events.
Catherine also has an extensive volunteer background in mainstream sport, highlights of which include: coordinating Women’s Soccer for the 1993 World University Games; coordinating the Ottawa-leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay for the 1994 Commonwealth Games; working as an Athletics Field of Play Marshall at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta; and serving as Mission Staff for the 1999 Canada Winter Games in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland.
Catherine is currently practicing as a litigator with a leading litigation firm in Halifax , . She previously worked as a human rights/equity professional for eight years. In addition to her law degree, she has a Bachelor of Physical Education degree and a Masters degree in Sport Administration and Management. Catherine was born in Nova Scotia and has also lived in Hamilton , Calgary , Edmonton , Ottawa and Toronto. |
