What do we do? We share expertise and best-practices with and among member organisations around the Asia Pacific region to nurture growth and sustainability; we grow LGBT sport by facilitating partnerships for the successful delivery of Asia Pac OutGames; and we partner with a broad variety of organisations, both LGBT and mainstream, to build bridges that help us further our activities and visibility while celebrating our culture through sport.
What makes us distinctive? The distinctive work of GLISA-AP can be described in terms of ‘four pillars’:
- The first pillar is GLISA-AP’s mandate to nurture and grow LGBT sport in the region, year in and year out, through outreach, member services and the sharing of knowledge and best practices among our members.
- The second pillar of GLISA-AP is partnership with mainstream sport, human rights and cultural organizations that share our mission to make all places safe for LGBT athletes to play sport.
- The third pillar of GLISA-AP is the delivery of the Asia Pac OutGames.
- The fourth pillar of GLISA-AP is the professionalisation of the LGBT sport movement. GLISA-AP is committed to legacy in the form of transfer of knowledge, innovation in the delivery of services, and professionalism in the implementation of marketing and sponsorship strategies.
What is our vision? GLISA-AP’s vision is a vibrant future LGBT sport movement that offers a compelling competition calendar, competitive events featuring the highest standards of organisation and facilities, growing capacity at every level of the sport system, events fully recognised by mainstream and LGBT sport governing bodies, and a viable business model for hosting games. Our vision includes GLISA-AP partnering with like organisations from around the world in the international GLISA network.
What are our priorities? GLISA-AP’s priorities in 2006 are supporting Montreal in delivering the 1st World OutGames in 2006, supporting the City of Copenhagen to deliver the 2nd World OutGames in 2009, expanding our membership of teams, clubs and city teams, nurturing the expansion of the GLISA-AP network, preparing to deliver Asia Pac OutGames in 2007 or 2008, strengthening partnerships with mainstream organisations to combat homophobia in sport, continuing to build our relationship with GLISA on the international stage.
Why should my organization join GLISA-AP? Membership in GLISA-AP enables you to promote your organisation through our network and web site, to network with dozens of other organisations like yours in this region and around the world, to share in and benefit from our best practices database, to be a part of a group that will be partnering with hosts to deliver Asia Pac OutGames, to have a say in the governance of GLISA-AP including making decisions about future World OutGames locations and programs of sports and events, and to have the opportunity to serve in a leadership position within GLISA-AP.
